Mev Exocet Kit Car Project

We love getting stuck into a project that really puts our tools to good use. Here’s one currently underway with Nigel our Power Manager and Paul from our buying department. The team are building a Mev Exocet Kit Car – here’s a look at how it’s done.

Step 1:

The Mazda MX5 is the perfect donor car for the MEV Exocet, so step one was to buy a used MX5 for the parts.

Step 2:

With the MX5 on site, the first thing to do is start removing all of the trim. We used a Draper Trim Removal Tool to help with this.

Step 3:

Next, we needed to remove the wiring loom. For all the electrical disconnections and the loom removal a heavy duty set of pliers was required, we used the Draper Tools Heavy Duty Soft Grip Plier Set.

Step 4:

Remove any parts you do not need from the MX5 and these can be sold to re-coup some of the costs. During this process a  ½” drive Socket Set came in handy to remove the nuts and bolts. For the really tight ones we used a flexible handle alongside the socket set to give extra torque.

Step 5:

Remove the MX5’s body. We did this with the help of an engine crane.

Step 6:

Remove the Mazda power plant that you are going to build the kit car on.

Step 7:

Now you can sell the old MX5 body for scrap.

What’s next?

The next step is to start cleaning the sub frames ready for painting or powder coating.

Once the build is complete it should look like this…

We’ll keep you updated on its progress!
