17th Mar 2021
Spring is in sight at last, officially beginning on 20th March. After winter lockdowns it feels like it means more than ever this year to see the signs of spring and lighter days.
Many of us will be thinking about our gardens and what we can do to get them prepped and ready for summer. We’ve rounded up a few of the most common jobs to do at this time of year.
Get planting
Now’s the time to plant those summer-flowering bulbs, this could include Dahlias, Peonies and Gladioli to name a few. If you need a little help with the job, check out the Draper Tools range of Bulb Planters – they can really make a difference if you’ve got heavy soil conditions to contend with.
It’s also a great time to plant trees, shrubs, roses and perennials too. And for anyone keen on growing their own food, it’s the perfect time start planting herbs and vegetables too. Whether you’ve got a window box or a larger plot anyone can give the grow your own trend a go.
Weed and mulch
It’s time to tackle the weeds, but you don’t have to go it alone, Draper Tools has a great range of weeding accessories including a Weed Burner, offering a precise and handy way to tackle weeds. The weed burner works by transmitting bursts of thermal heat which result in the plant cells dying from root to tip, without the use of dangerous flames. It's a great alternative to weed killer and much better for the environment, leaving gardens clear of weeds and safe for children and pets. With the weeds cleared, mulch your beds and borders with compost to keep them away.
Mow the lawn
If the rain has stayed away and your lawn is dry, you could think about getting the lawn mower out and giving the grass a good going over. You might be surprised by how much you’ve missed the task, mowing the lawn was voted one of the most satisfying garden jobs you can do! Check out the range of lawn mowers available from Draper Tools.
